Stuart Sumida

Sumida-Headsho2tStuart Sumida is widely acknowledged as the world’s leading expert on animal anatomy for animation and digital special effects.  Prof. Sumida has more than 50 feature-length film projects to his credit, working with such studios as Disney, DreamWorks, Pixar, and Sony Pictures. He has consulted about human, animal and creature anatomy for many household-name movies, including How to Train Your Dragon, Kung Fu Panda, Stuart LittleTarzanThe Lion King, Guardians of the Galaxy  The Good Dinosaur, and Zootopia..

After completing his Ph.D. in biology at the University of California, Sumida became a professor of Biology at California State University.  He is an internationally respected instructor and paleontological researcher, and a research associate at the Field Museum in Chicago and the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh.   He is also the recipient of the Wang Family Excellence of CSU, which celebrates those CSU faculty and administrators who have distinguished themselves through exemplary contributions and achievements in their academic disciplines.
