Visual Effects and Animation Production

“ I try to push students beyond their comfort zone, while telling them it’s ok to fail.  There’s no way to know your limits until you bend past them.  My goal is to re-set the level of expectation against the world’s excellence. I tell my students “think big, have large horizons.”

An animation direction, production and VFX heavyweight, Terrance Masson has over 20 years of eclectic production experience.  He came up through the ranks on about 20 major feature films, including flying the ‘Millennium Falcon’ in the Empire Strikes Back, feeding Boba Fett to the Sarlac in Return of the Jedi, created pixie dust in Hook and general movie magic for True Lies, Interview with a Vampire, Titanic and Fantastic Four. Interactive game projects have included Cyberia2, SimCity4, Batman:  Dark Tomorrow, Alter Echo and Bruce Lee. Now he is the founder and CEO of Building Conversations Inc(http://buildingconversation.com) which focuses on augmented reality solutions on-site and in the office.

He is author of the industry standard “CG101: A Computer Graphics Industry Reference” and consults with major production studios worldwide.  He is a member of the Producers Guild of America, the Visual Effects Society and has been active in SIGGRAPH since 1988.  An ACM Distinguished Lecturer, he served as the 2006 Computer Animation Festival Chair and SIGGRAPH 2010 Conference Chair.  He served as founding Director of Creative Industries at Northeastern University in Boston, where he oversaw all Game Design & Interactive Media curriculum and research activities.
